Rediscovering MAC Velvet Teddy

Now then, I can just imagine a bunch of you sighing in dismay after reading the title of this post! With Velvet Teddy being one of the most hyped up lipsticks I don’t blame you, but trust me my friend it really is worth the hype. I’ve recently rediscovered Velvet Teddy and fallen even more in love with it.

When I first picked up Velvet Teddy a few months ago I did really like it, but it was quite an unusual shade for me with it’s orange/brown under tones. It didn’t really seem like much of ‘Lucie’ shade and I didn’t feel like I could pull it off. I’m not sure why but last month something just clicked and I wanted to start wearing this shade again. I’ve been wearing it for work on quite a regular basis. I feel so comfortable wearing it especially now that I’ve got a slight sun-kissed glow.

Matte formulas can be very unforgiving at times but with the right preparation VT can sit very nicely on the lips. Using my LUSH lip scrub before applying this lipstick has made a huge difference, it makes the lipstick apply much more smoothly and doesn’t leave your lips feeling as uncomfortable/dried out.

What I love about VT and it’s matte finish is it’s lasting power – I can wear this lipstick for 6 hours without it budging. At times it will require a little touch up, but nothing too major. It’s a very low maintenance lipstick and it still looks lovely even as the colour begins to fade.

Although I must admit it’s not the easiest lipstick to apply and get a nice smooth line so I definitely prefer to wear it with a lip liner. My liner of choice would usually be Rimmel’s lasting finish liner in Spice or MAC’s Whirl. Spice is more of a terracotta shade whilst Whirl has more of a pink tone.

As I’ve mentioned this is quite a bold nude, but it can be worn with so many different looks. It’s versatile enough for day time and night time looks. I really like wearing this to work, whilst keeping the rest of my make up plain and simple. It also works really well with a more bronzed up complexion, as shown in my Make-Up Menu post earlier this week (click here to see original post).

For those of you who are still feeling a bit on the fence about this lipstick, I urge you to head to your nearest MAC store and give it a swatch. Trust me you will love it! I’m yet to find another lipstick which comes close to VT in terms of colour and lasting power so I highly recommend this product.

I’m very keen to try some more MAC matte lipsticks, if you have any recommendations please let me know. I’m also determined to find a good drugstore dupe for Velvet Teddy – so do share if you’ve found any hidden drugstore gems!

  1. I love Velvet Teddy! I love it more using it with Edge to Edge lip liner by MAC. Another great matte lip colors are Pink Plaid and Honey Love. I have another ones but they are darker. I think the darker, the driest. For example, Ruby Woo, Heroine, Insitgator, Flat Out Fabulous. Those I wear with MAC PRep + Prime for the lips!
