Since Makeup Geek arrived in the UK, there has been a rise in the popularity of Z palettes. As it was payday last week I decided to jump on the bang wagon and treat myself, as I had quite a few MUG shadows I wanted to try but no Z palette to put them in. Beauty Bay are the UK stockist for MUG and they also sell Z palettes too – a match made in heaven. I decided to go for the small palette with 4 MUG shadow pans to start with.
As I have already mentioned, I decided to purchase the small Z palette which costs £8.95. It holds 9 shadows so I thought this would be a good starting point. It’s also a very travel friendly size so will be useful when going on holiday. The palette also came with some magnetic strips and circles, so that if you decide to depot any regular shadows you are able to put them in the Z palette too.
I purchased four of the regular Makeup Geek Shadow pans, each costing £4.95 which I think is a real bargain. I have read lots of posts which have compared the quality of these shadows to MAC, but at just half of the price. The shades I purchased are as follows.
Shimma Shimma (top left) – A pink champagne highlight shade, with a beautiful shimmer. I chose this shade as I thought it would make a good dupe for Stila’s Kitten eye shadow. As you can see from the swatch below, it’s very pigmented. I actually tried this out for the first time in my new YouTube video which I will link below.
Petal Pusher (centre) – This shade is a cool toned matte pink. I chose Petal Pusher as I thought it would work well with my Tartelette Tease palette, which also has lots of pinky tones. I don’t own any other shades like this so it’s a very welcome addition.
Cocoa Bear (top right) – Cocoa Bear is a warm almost red toned brown matte. I thought this would be great for adding definition to a brown smokey eye. As with Shimma Shimma, this is a very popular shade and I can see why as it’s highly pigmented.
Peach Smoothie (second row) – This shade is completely not what I would usually go for. Jaclyn Hill raves about Peach Smoothie on her channel, it’s meant to make a beautiful transition shade. As I’m getting more into eye shadow and I’ve been experimenting more I thought this would be a great shade to have.
L – R, Shimma Shimma, Petal Pusher, Peach Smoothie, Cocoa Bear.
I think for £4.95 these eye shadows are very impressive. When it comes to drugstore eyeshadows, the mattes never seem to pack much of a punch when it comes to pigment. But Makeup Geek have clearly found a formula that really works for their matte shadows. I’m so glad that this brand has finally come to the UK as I can’t wait to try more from them.
I have given more detail on my first impressions in my new YouTube video which is linked below. I’ve also included some footage of me applying the shadows, so make sure you head over to my channel to see that.
I would love to hear if you’ve tried any Makeup Geek shadows, & if you have any recommendations for me? As of course, I’ve got to fill the rest of the space in my Z palette.
