Birchbox August Edition | Beauty Junkie

After watching Amelia Liana’s Unboxing video on YouTube video earlier this week I was even more excited than usual for the arrival of this months Birchbox. This month Birchbox are channelling their inner Beauty Junkie and every subscriber will receive two make-up products in their box. Birchbox are very good at building the suspense by posting their little teasers online in the run up to the boxes being mailed out. After seeing various teasers I had my fingers crossed that I would receive the facial exfoliator and the Illamasqua Matte Veil.

Rituals Ayurveda Scrub – This purifying body scrub contains Multani clay to help remove dead skin cells. The scrub has a soft floral scent which I really like, you can really smell the indian rose but it’s not overpowering. It is quite a fine scrub which I think is great as bulky scrubs can be a bit too harsh on my skin. This 70ml sample will definitely last me a while so I am pleased with this product.

Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo – This shampoo claims to the the ultimate detox for your hair and is said to act as a hair exfoliator, something which really intrigues me. I’ve never tried a clarifying shampoo before  so I am interested to see the effect it has on my hair. Kebelo recommends using this shampoo twice monthly to give your hair a deep cleanse and leave your hair feeling revived.

Hyugens Exfoliating Cream – There seems to be a bit of an exfoliating theme to my box this month! I’m not complaining though, as I was actually only looking at facial exfoliators earlier this week. This Hyugens exfoliator is a Birchbox exclusive and this sample is the perfect size for travelling. This exfoliating cream contains rice powder particles to smooth and purify without irritation, which sounds perfect for my dry sensitive skin.

Lord & Berry Blush in Lotus – The packaging of this blush sample is so cute. Birchbox chose this rose shade as it is said to suit all skin tones. I tried the blush earlier today and it is very pigmented. It gives a really healthy flush of colour to the cheeks whilst looking very natural. I will definitely be popping this cutie in my travel make up bag next month for my trip to Zante.

Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Violet – Coloured liner has become a huge trend in 2015 and I was really excited to receive this Laura Mercier liner. This will be the first product I have tried from the brand. It is a very deep purple shade and is from the pro long-wear range which is built to last. I’m sure it will be featured in a blog post in the near future once I’ve put it to the test.

Illamasqua Matte Veil – This was something I was very excited to receive as I have heard great things about Illamasqua, but have been unsure about which products to try. This primer is said to be great at prepping your skin for make up as well as keeping shine at bay. The packaging is just as sleek and sophisticated as I expected. Sadly it seems my primer must have leaked/ been damaged as when I went to try it there was only a tiny amount inside the tube.

It seems that each month Birchbox seems to surpass my expectations and I was very impressed with this months range of products. I can see myself getting a lot of use from each and every one of the products. It’s just a shame that the Illamasqua primer was damaged as I was so excited to give it a good test run. The only product I was hoping for this month that I didn’t receive was The Balm’s Desert Bronzer, so I will keep my fingers crossed that this may come in one of my future boxes.

Have you tried Birchbox? Which monthly subscription boxes are you a fan of?

  1. Great box! I didn’t get the liner – I got the Balm bronzer instead (would have preferred the liner) and I didn’t get the shampoo I got a leave in conditioner which is nice xx I was really impressed with this months box! Xx

      1. The leave in conditioner is by Beauty Protector the same brand as the hair oil from a couple of months ago which I loved. The bronzer is lovely but I don’t use bronzer so would have preferred the eye liner. I will definitely give it a try as bronzer scares me a bit and this one is a nice pale shade xxx

  2. Birchbox has really good customer service. If you email them about the damaged product they will send you a new one. I opted for the Candidly Nicole box this month and couldn’t be happier. I posted pics on Twitter if you are interested. @hippylip

  3. This is a nice box! Been dying to try Illasmasqua anything! So, I have had this thing with Sub boxes (get your cuppa, I’m gonna type LOL). SO……. la di da… after months of research I get Wantable. 40.00 a month. That’s a lot! I’m thinking OK ..I’m going to get these luxury brands and it will be exciting to blog about since no one else I know is getting it and my box came and it was total shit. I mean complete and udder garbage. I was PISSED. That went back and that was a cancel. Total fail. Months go by. Here I am FINALLY have done something. So, I subbed to the Joeuet – I think I butchered the spelling and they send a box once every 3 months. So, ok that’s nice and seems like a lovely line. Then last night I ordered Boxy Charm. So, we’ll see. I’m VERY nervous.
