6 Month Blog Anniversary | What I’ve Learnt & Blogging Goals!

blog anniversary

Today marks a big milestone for me and my little blog, it is exactly 6 months today that I wrote my first post on WordPress. I never expected to enjoy blogging as much as I have, or for people to actually enjoy reading my content so the fact my blog has got this far makes me feel so proud. I’m closing in on 1000 WordPress followers now, which has completely surpassed my expectations of where I thought this blog would take me. I’ve learnt a lot along the way and I still feel like such a newbie as I’m learning all the time. I thought it would be lovely to look back at what I’ve learnt over the last 6 months, and also look forward to highlight where I what I would like to achieve in the next 6 months.

Over time I’ve seen a huge change in the content I put out. When I first created my blog, the main reason was because I missed writing. During my time at University I was in my element, although I wasn’t writing creatively I still really enjoyed writing assignments and when I came home I felt like something was missing. As work became more stressful I wanted to find a new hobby, I was already running so I knew it needed to be something a bit different and that’s how this all started.

Back in April when I first started posting my photos were all from my iPhone and some of my posts were pretty much ramblings, but it was a start and I was enjoying it. Over time I feel I’ve learnt to take pride in what I post, my photography has really improved and I am always striving to put out sound content. One thing I have always wanted to maintain is to only post what I enjoy writing about – I didn’t want to fall into the trap of writing about something just to get views!

Speaking of which, another thing I have learnt is numbers aren’t everything. I am the type of person who is very much motivated by targets and goals. At the end of the day it’s important to remember that statistics are really out of our control, if blogging makes you happy then that’s the main thing – not how many likes you get per day. So although yes I do like to check my stats to see how my posts are doing, I don’t obsess over it and allow it to affect my writing/ what content I put out.

One other thing I would like to say, to anyone else out there who is pretty new to the blogging scene; whatever you do, don’t compare yourself to others! The blogging community is amazing and diverse, full of fantastic individuals who have created amazing blogs. It’s important to remember that for some people, this is their full time job and these people have probably been blogging for years too. It’s important to consider things like that as it’s easy to put yourself down when looking at those shining stars within the community.

As for my goals, I would love to have reached 1500 followers on WordPress by my blog’s first birthday. I want to continue creating content I love whilst immersing myself in the blogging community! I would love to attend a blogging event in the next 6 months too – so far I haven’t felt confident enough but I’m going to push myself to get involved. My final goal would be to make more blog more diverse, initially I focussed mainly on beauty but as my blog has grown I’ve really enjoyed writing more lifestyle posts so I definitely want to make that a bigger part of my blog.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to sit & read my ramblings, especially if you clicked that all important little follow button – it means so much to me.

      1. Haha I know right. I’ve seen info about them on Twitter but they are usually in London or the South east which is so far from me! Where do you live if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in the South West so it’s so quiet for events round here xx

  1. Happy 6 months, hun!
I actually still remember stumbling upon your blog back in April (I think), when you first started out and it’s amazing to see how far you’ve come. ^^

Your blog is amazing and just keep up the good work! (and I know that you’ll achieve all your goals, even sooner than you think!)

    Have a lovely day!
