Over the last 2 months I’ve been reaching for this mascara a lot, especially whilst I was away in Zante so I thought it was about time I put together a full review. Maybelline The Rocket is one of the brands longstanding mascaras, I first head about this product from Emily Rose, she used to talk about it a lot in her videos. It’s actually the first waterproof mascara I’ve tried, I think previously I was reluctant to use waterproof mascara due to hearing how difficult it can be to remove.
I really love the shimmery blue packaging, it really makes the product stand out on the shelves. Some drugstore mascaras packaging can make them look quite ‘cheap’ but Maybelline have got the nail on the head with this one in my opinion. The brush is quite different to what I would usually go for. It’s quite a wide and chunky brush, with very spiky bristles (be careful not to poke yourself in the eye.. I can vouch that it’s pretty painful hah). The brush works well as it separates the lashes and prevents the mascara from clumping.
One coat of this mascara gives my lashes lots of extra length, whilst still looking very natural. Even with multiple coats this mascara doesn’t seem to clump, I think that’s down to the shape of the brush (as I mentioned previously). The tagline of this mascara is ‘Massive volume in rocket time’ – which is strange as I found this mascara to be much better at lengthening, and it didn’t really give me much volume at all.
The waterproof formula is very long wearing – whilst on holiday I wore this mascara on days wear I went swimming/ snorkelling and it didn’t budge at all. I was very impressed, as I thought it may flake or smudge slightly.. but it stood the test of time again the water.
I expected this mascara to be tough to remove due to it’s hardy waterproof formula, but I was pleasantly surprised as it came off very easily using my trusty Garnier Micellar water or using the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing butter. So that was really impressive, and I will definitely be taking this on my next holiday.
So in summary, I do think this is a really good drugstore mascara. It gives my lashes lots of length and definition, but sadly is lacking in volume. I have found it works well to use the Lash Sensational mascara as a base, then layer The Rocket over the top so that I have length and volume. But I am still on the hunt for a mascara which does it all! I would recommend trying Maybelline The Rocket if you are looking for a waterproof mascara which is great for every day wear, and keeps your lashes looking natural.
Am on an eternal hunt for a mascara that would work for me. Think I might give this one a try though, as you say it’s good at separating the lashes, and I’m not really looking for volume (I get OCD about my lashes sticking together!). Thanks for the review 🙂

So glad this was helpful for you, if you are mainly after length you will most likely love this mascara 🙂 xx

I think I recently noticed a mascara that gives you clumps on purpose *shudders*

It’s always the way with mascara. I use one for volume and another for length. I wish I could find one that did both for me. Thanks for the awesome review!
